On 1/16/05, Napa SAR was notified about Marin SAR search for missing 42 yo female in China Camp SP. Five SAR members responded to Mutual Aid search on 1/17 at 0800hrs at SP. Napa deployed 2 teams to support ground search and dog search. Ground team was assigned to search area south of PLK. Other team supported dog search with scent article. Fog was heavy so air support was not available in the morning hours. When dogs tracked person down to water, dive teams called in to search. No signs of missing person were located by any teams by late afternoon and Marin SAR suspended search. Napa SAR completed assignment at 1500hrs.

On 1/22/05, Napa SAR responded for mutual aid for follow up search to Jan 16 incident at China Camp SP. Marin SAR had some additional theories on search during the week and assigned teams for high POD area searches. No signs of victim were located. Search was suspended by late afternoon. Napa SAR completed assignment at 1400hrs.

On 2/1/05, Napa SAR responded to call for missing 27 year old hiker. The hiker had been separated from his friends, and was reported overdue in the afternoon. Napa SAR was called out at 2000hrs and performed a hasty search that evening until near daylight the next morning. One of the victims friends was able to lead track teams to the PLS. Three track teams were deployed to check trails and 2 dog teams were deployed from the PLS. Temp overnight was mild but the winds were making it difficult for dog teams. Mutual aid and air resources were brought in the next day. Approximately 50 searchers were in the area by daybreak. Sonoma H1 spotted the hiker at approximately 0830hrs and was able to extract the hiker from the trail and flew to Santa Rosa airport where the victim was evaluated and released in good condition. Search was completed at 1000hrs.

On 2/19/05, Napa SAR responded to call for body recovery from an airplane accident on Mt. St. Helena. The wreckage was in an inaccessible area on a slope approximately at approximately 4000ft. Type 1 teams from Marin were called in to perform the extraction. Due to location on a 200ft cliff, fog, limited visibility and rain, air operations were not possible. Teams with chainsaws were deployed from above and below to cut their way through the vegetation. Dense vegetation, boulder fields and rock fall hampered the operation and made access challenging. The technical team was required to lower two members down a 150ft cliff to gain access to one of the victims. Mission was completed at 1700hrs without incident.

On 4/26/05, Napa SAR was called for mutual aid to assist Mariposa County SAR in searching for a missing elderly gentlemen whose abandon vehicle was found days earlier. Napa SAR responded with 5 team members participated in the 4^th operational period. The terrain was a difficult Type II with snow and ice. Heavy rains made searching, insertion, and extraction difficult. The subject was not located and the team covered a lot of area previously covered by search teams. No other clues were found.

On 5/15/05, Napa SAR responded to an overdue party at Putah Creek Slough in the area of Stage Coach Road in Napa/Lake County. Two men had been fishing and became separated. Napa SO was contacted by one party when the other did not return. SAR located the missing subject while on trail and extricated him via ATV.

On 5/29/05, Napa SAR responded to call for a missing seminary student at Christian Brothers School in Napa County. The subject had been on his routine bike ride the prior day, but no one had seen him return. A hasty search was conducted from the PLS at the Retreat/Conference Center. The subject was located within 2 hours of responding and recovery duties were performed by local fire and the coroner.

On 6/10/05, Napa SAR responded to call for search for four youths who had been mountain biking in the Palisades and contacted parents when unable to return to trailhead at nightfall. Parents contacted SO and SAR responded. While enroute, Sonoma H1 located subjects and provided helo evacuation. Team response was cancelled.

Napa SAR provided support CARDA support for Mariposa County for multiple days 6/23 to 6/27.

Upon conclusion of joint training exercise with Marin SAR, team was asked to assist with a Marin SAR response. Napa SAR assisted with carry out for missing hiker on Mt Tamalpias.

On 7/14/05, Napa SAR responded to a call for a missing youth in American Canyon. During response, subject was located by Patrol officers.

On 7/26/05, Napa SAR responded to a mutual aid call for an 81 y.o. missing hiker in Briones Regional Park. This multi-agency search over 4 days turned up no clues to the whereabouts of the hiker. Search was suspended after 4 days.

On 8/6/05, Napa SAR participated in a mock search in conjunction with Lake County and other SAR teams. Terrain was Type II and included all facets of real search.

On 8/6/05, Napa SAR responded to a search for 3 stranded hikers in the Palisades. CHP H30 extricated the hikers.

On 8/7/05, Napa SAR responded to a search for missing 14 y.o. in American Canyon. SO Patrol located youth while team was enroute. Team response was cancelled.

On 8/8/05, Napa SAR responded to a search for missing youth in Benecia at Glen Cove. Team was redirected from previous response to Glen Cove. Youth was found by law enforcement during team mobilization. Team response was cancelled.

On 8/12/05, Napa SAR responded to a search for a 75 y.o. hiker missing in the Palisades. Hiker self-rescued while team was responding. Team response cancelled.

On 8/13/05, Napa SAR was put on standby for assistance in a body recovery. Subject was able to be extricated by helicopter. Team did not respond.

On 8/28/05, Napa SAR conducted a search and rescue exercise involving two mock victims. SAR demonstrated radio repeater and APRS capability during search. Exercise lasted about 3 hours.

On 8/29/05, Napa SAR was called out to assist in a search for a 84 y.o. Alzheimer’s patient. Patrol located person after about an hour of searching. Team response was cancelled.

On 8/29/05, Napa SAR was called out to assist Solano SAR for a missing 13 y.o. disabled male. Subject was later located at another school after a few hours.

On 9/4/05, Napa SAR was called out to assist in a second search for a 84 y.o. Alzheimer’s patient. Patrol located person after about 30 minutes. Team response was cancelled.

On 10/16/05, Napa SAR was called out to search for a missing 30 y.o. male in Lake Berryessa near Cappell Cove. The subject had left cross-country after abandoning his raft. Subject self-rescued while SAR was responding to the call.

On 10/24/05, Napa SAR responded to a call out for a missing 67 y.o. despondent male who was at risk. SAR team conducted a hasty search during the night but did not turn up any clues. Subject self-rescued the next day, returning to the home after spending the night in vineyard.

On 8/25/05, Napa SAR responded to a call out mutual aid to search for a missing youth who had gone missing from school that day. SAR teams searched through the night but did not turn up any clues. Youth decided to return home and called parents after spending a long night out wandering Vacaville.

On 11/12/05, Napa SAR conducted a search exercise. SAR worked primarily on tracking skills. The portal repeater was used again. Exercise lasted about 3 hours.

On 12/6/05, Napa SAR responded to a call out for a missing child from American Canyon Middle School. The youth had apparently bolted from parent near the school grounds. Approximately 100 searches from local fire and police, including H30, assisted in the search efforts. After approximately 6 hours, the youth was located hiding near the school.
