On 01/01/06, Napa SAR Overhead Team was activated to assist CDF with a report of a trailer being washed down river in the vicinity of 4000 block of Redwood Road in Napa County.

On 1/1/06, Napa SAR placed on standby to assist with the flood response in Napa County. Members prepared for deployment to affected areas. Overhead planning for disaster response continued into the next day.

On 1/2/06, Napa SAR assisted SO and County officials with emergency response to the Napa County floods. Teams responded to various parts of the County to assist with damage assessments and welfare checks. No search or rescue operations were needed. Assistance continued into the next day.

Project Lifesaver Response
Am Can

On 1/6/06, Napa SAR was sent to investigate a report of a failed Project Lifesaver transmitter. Transmitter was checked and evaluated as operational on 215.197 MHz. Upon closer inspection, battery had become dislodged from transmitter check unit. It was also discovered that the unit had a cold solder joint on negative side of board. The client’s transmitter check unit was replaced. Defective unit has since been repaired and is awaiting return to service.

Marin Headlands, Marin County

On 1/14/06, Napa SAR responded for a mutual aid search at Rodeo Beach for a missing 60 hiker. Approximately 120 searchers from the 5 bay area counties responded. Search operations were coordinated by the Park Service. Napa SAR completed numerous assignments and was involved in location and extrication of the deceased hiker.

American Canyon

On 2/2/06, Napa SAR responded to a missing youth in American Canyon. Subject was located after about an hour of limited searching with deputies. Balance of team was not dispatched due to prior history with youth.

Mantracking Recertification Class
Napa

Napa SAR conducted a mantracking recertification class. This consisted of both classroom and field training. SAR mantracking team was POST recertified.

Missing Person Search
Napa

On 2/24/06, Napa SAR responded to a call for a missing adult at risk in the City of Napa. Teams responded to the Sheriff's office to ready trailer and equipment. An advanced team was dispatched to set up the search HQ and begin hasty search planning. As team was deploying, deputies located missing person. SAR response was subsequently cancelled.

Marin Land Navigation Exercise with Marin SAR
China Camp State Park, Marin County

Napa SAR joined Marin SAR in a full-day land navigation course consisting of workshops in basic orienteering, map/compass, gps and compass course.

Missing Youth Response
Robert Louis Stevenson State Park, Napa County

On 2/25/06, Napa SAR responded to a call for missing boy scouts in RLS park. Deputies and seach teams responded from south and north parts of county, as well as CHP H30. H30 was able to locate the youth while other units were enroute. H30 recovered the youth and delivered them to Calistoga. SAR team response was subsequently cancelled.

On 3/1/06, Napa SAR visited Mt George school. The team educated the children on SAR activities and canine operations. SAR brought Rescue 1, 2, ATVs, and dogs. The visit was well received by the children.

On 3/9/06, Napa SAR responded canine unit to a mutual aid response near Sacramento. Canine team did not produce any finds after 3 1/2hrs of searching.

On 3/16/06, Napa SAR responded to a possible missing person search in Novato. Call out was later cancelled after CHP determined person was not actually lost but likely left the scene of an accident.

On 3/26/06, Napa SAR participated in a public service work detail in conjunction with Home Depot. SAR helped with restoration efforts at River and Harvest School in Napa. Work included landscaping and painting.

Napa SAR participated in a mutual county mock search exercise at the Sonoma Development Center in Sonoma. SAR participated in Saturday preplanning and Sunday search activities. SAR demonstrated APRS capabilities with success.

On 4/13/06, Napa SAR visited Donaldson Way school. The team educated the children on SAR activities and canine operations. The visit was well received by the children.

On 4/14/06, Napa SAR canine unit responded to a mutual search in San Rafael for a 68 YO missing adult with medical conditions. Missing person was located and canine team was cancelled enroute.

Fort Bragg, Mendocino County

Early in the morning on 4/17, Napa SAR was paged out to respond to a mutual aid search for a missing child at Fort Bragg. A team of five was dispatched and started search assignments at daybreak. The missing youth was found safe and well by other another team and Napa SAR returned home that evening.

El Dorado County

On 3/26/06, Napa SAR canine unit participated in a mutual aid response near in El Dorado County. 51 YOA was missing for missing 2 days and nights in a wilderness area close to Placerville after wandering away from his home. El Dorado SAR had been searching on 3/25/06 and was in process of starting a second ops period. Subject self-rescued by following the sounds of his rooster. Canine team was cancelled enroute.

On 4/27, Napa SAR responded to a search for a missing cyclist near Lake Berryessa. Cyclist had become separated from partner and was overdue. The team was cancelled enroute when missing cyclist contacted SO and connections were made.

On 6/9, Napa SAR responded to a search for a missing child in the City of Napa. SAR teams responded to SO to initiate search and prepare resources for deployment. Child was found safe by deputies while SAR was in deploying resources and equipment. The team was subsequently cancelled.

Placer County

On 7/25, a Napa SAR canine team was called up by OES to response to a missing hiker search near Big Bend. Team arrived on scene but was not deployed. The missing hikers eventually self-rescued.

Napa SAR held a mock search exercise at the RLS park. SAR deployed ATV, canine and track teams during the night search. Exercise lasted 3 hrs. During the mock search response, Napa SAR was on standby for a missing youth in American Canyon. Youth was located allowing the SAR team to continue with exercise.

On 8/23, Napa SAR was called up for a missing person near Wooden Valley Rd at the County line. SAR team cancelled while en route after person was located.

Yountville, Napa County

On 9/22, Napa SAR was called up to assist in potential evacuation of residents in Yountville for a wildland fire. SAR teams staged at Yountville Firestation awaiting instructions. No mandatory evacuations were ordered. Team was cancelled later that evening when the threat had subsided.

On 10/8, Napa SAR was called up for a missing person search near Knoxville just over the county line. SAR teams responded in the early morning hours and began searching at daybreak. Sonoma teams had been searching the day before. Subject was able to self-rescue the next day.

On 10/22, a Napa SAR canine team responded to a mutual aid search for a missing hiker who had gotten stuck while out on a hike. Subject had apparently fell down a steep slope and decided to stay put overnight. Subject self-rescued the next morning. SAR team worked about a 3 hr search assignment.

On 10/24, Napa SAR was called up to assist in evacuation of residents near Atlas Peak due to a wildland fire. SAR teams went door-to-door informing residents of voluntary evacuation. SAR Team was released after completing assignments.
