The Napa County Search and Rescue (SAR)
Unit provides search and rescue services to all areas of Napa
County and the surrounding San Francisco Bay Area. The unit's
mission is to locate and rescue victims in urban areas or
wild lands, aircraft and boating accidents, and in natural
or man-made disasters. The team is always "mission ready"
and available 24 hours a day.
Napa SAR has a current authorized strength
of 30 members, and is augmented by members of the Sheriff's
Department Aero Squadron, Marine Patrol, and Mounted Posse.
Although administered by the Sheriff's Department, Napa County
SAR is an all volunteer non-profit organization supported
through grants and local donations. Members devote countless
hours of their time in service of their community. The group
is highly dedicated, proven by experience, and motivated by
their desire to help others.
All members go through extensive training in search and rescue
techniques when they join the unit. Continuous in-service
training with mandatory attendance is provided by local experts
in their fields of expertise and by opportunities at regional
and national SAR trainings. All members are required to complete
basic first-aid training and must meet SARTECH II/III requirements.

The Search and Rescue unit is available
for wild land and urban searches to any agency in the county.
The unit also will provide limited assistance for crime scene
searches. Because of the time and training constraints we
request that crime scene searches be limited to the most serious
cases. The Search and Rescue Unit also has responsibilities
to furnish search teams to other counties throughout the state
as required by the California Master Mutual Aid Agreement
to which Napa County is a signatory.
If you would like any further information
regarding SAR support, please contact Sgt Leroy Anderson at
the Napa County Sheriff's Department, (707) 253-4509.
